With today being friday, the atmosphere around the office was fairly relaxed and not too productive. I continued work on Flightpath's copy deck while taking breaks every now and then to wake myself up and to further familiarize myself with Adobe Illustrator.
Today was yet another quiet day at Flightpath. I spent most of the day helping the company go over their existing website and copying all the information on it into a copy deck so that the site programmers can easily access the information for when they are building the new website. After doing this for quite a few hours, I was asked to make a shipping label for the company in Adobe Illustrator. This was particularly challenging for me because I have yet to really learn how to use Illustrator but I managed to figure out just enough to make the label. Upon completion of that, I sent it off to the next person for further editing and began to watch more tutorial videos online.
As I am settling into the internship, I am finding that in order to keep up with the day to day workflow I need to expand my knowledge in the Adobe programs. I was given login credentials for a website filled to the brim with any kind of tutorial you could imagine called Lynda.com. Once I was logged in, I spent the day watching videos and trying out what I had learned in that video, There were no particular challenges for today as I did no real work for any projects.
Today was noticeably less exciting than yesterday. Once I got to the office this morning, I was given the task to download over a hundred source images from Fox's website. I was given login credentials to the website so that I could login to Fox and download the source images legally. Surprisingly this was challenging, as I wanted to get it done as fast as possible I tried to download the files by page. This caused the computer to lag out and break the downloads so I had to figure out how many files I could download at one time. Once I got that going, I spent the rest of the day watching downloads, sorting the files, and starting new downloads. During the time it would take for the files to get downloaded, I decided to be productive and spend some time in photoshop and start the process of making new banners for my DP.
Once or so in a long while, you are given the opportunity to go out into the world and do something amazing. Today marks the first day of my LINK internship at Flightpath; a digital marketing agency based in the Flatiron District in NYC. As my day began at 10 AM, I was introduced around the design department of the office by Steven, my mentor. I was then given multiple tasks by one of the other designers and we worked in loose tandem to complete these. The first thing I had to do was source and implement photos into a newsletter about having a pet and how to be a good owner for them. After completing this, I was given a large PSD file of a high end golf club and told to make slices of each hole, the practice course, and the clubhouse. Challenging parts of doing this was determining how much space should be left around the edges of the fairway. Upon completion of this, I was given my final task for the day; to find a stock image and change it around so that it could be used as a header image for Flightpath's own blog post (published today) about Social Media Week which ended on the 27th of February.
