Rocket
Reflection Chris Niles The exhibition for the rocket project was very interesting. Seeing as how it was so windy the rockets would leave the launch pad a tilt with the wind and not really gain any altitude. The wind would also mess up the deployment of the parachutes. My reaction to this natural mishap was the thought that we need to do this on a different day, that obviously was not going to happen. Most of the rockets that launched flew relatively good but only one parachute actually deployed. Something that I could have done to improve my rockets performance would be to make the nose cone less heavy and come up with a better parachute deployment system. The things that we could have done to make the nose cone lighter would be to simply put less duct tape on it or even make the thing out of stiff poster board. The parachute was packed in the tube too much, thus not getting deployed. Something that I found interesting about all of the rockets that flew up really high, is that they all had one main charge chamber and two to three smart water bottles stacked on top of each other. I believe that the length of the rocket was sort of at a golden ratio. All of the rockets that had this construction flew fairly high or for a longer amount of time than the other designs of rockets. What I also found interesting was that only one parachute actually did anything. Overall I found this to be a very fun project. The building was fun but seeing all the rockets go flying in the air and hitting cars, that the best. I think that this project should continue to happen because it is exciting but it teaches you a lot about how things work in the real world. |
