Mask Project Reflection
In this mask project, each student was to design a molded mask of
their own face and write a minimum of five paragraphs for a highly detailed
explanation of the mask, how they were socialized, and what socialization
primarily is. On the mask the student was able to put anything that tied into
their personal socialization or that of others. The sociology content that we
took in over the few weeks that we had to make this project was, for the most
part, a very detailed description of how you and everyone else in the world were
socialized. The cool part about this is that you are being socialized every
single second of your waking life.
I learned many, many things about human society, most of these things
being, that it is a brutal world out there. You must always have a good
self-conscious if you wish to be socialized into someone that you yourself would
find pleasing to be around and to be for that matter. The world that we live in
is a complex world, to say the least. This world has people that you may not
like and people that you amy like, there are people that are good people that
respect others and people that do not respect anyone except for the closest of
family and friends. The family and friends of these people are often the same
way because that is how they were raised and socialized and that is how those
people will most likely raise their children, if they have any. I learned that
you must always find a suitable balance of EVERY socializing factor, for if you
don’t, your life will most likely be miserable and/or you will not get treated
the way that you should. In this overly complex world, you can always find peace
with yourself as long as choose the path that suits you best, whether it be a
rich business person or a not so rich hobby enthusiast. This was honestly, the
most important thing that I learned in my entire life.
What I learned about myself in this project, well that is a hard question
to answer for I have learned so much about myself and others that I had no idea
even was possible.
I learned that people develop in many different ways, even if they are
your twin sister. Most people don’t even realize that at every waking second of
their lives, they are being socialized.
`
I am most proud of the entire project; I honestly thought that I did a
very good job at all the work I was supposed to do. What I am most proud of in
my mask is the levels of refinement and how it really shows the glossy effect
and the rough edges on the right. I am most proud of my essay because it took so
much longer to refine. I started the thing over at least three times and I think
that it really shows it in some of the memories that I had put in there.
What will I do better? I will do an infinite amount of things better as
my life progresses. I will listen to what my peers have to say about things and
I will also listen to what my mentors have to say about the things that trouble
me. I will continue to start over if the original is bad, I will build off of
that failure. That, is what I will do better.
